i guess your problem is that you get into a momentum of writing long speeches you overlook the words that contain those letters Big Smile [:D]

You know me so well. I do get carried away with the message I am trying to convey. Usually I read my messages over to check for typographical errors but now it seems that I also need to watch out for words that could end up as asterisks.

Let me read this one over. Looks safe enough. Ok so now I can click the enter key.

You know I translated this song too last night, shortly after you posted it. I was just double checking my spelling and then some idiot booted me in Yahoo and my pc froze. I had to reboot and when I came back I had lost it all. Good thing Nisha stepped in and did it also.

    Hone Do Dil Ko Fana
    let the heart perish
    Hone Do Dil Ko Tabah
    let the heart be ruined
Udne Do Har Ek Wo Tamanna
let each that desire fly away
Udne Do Har Ek Wo Tamanna
Aao Na Aao Na Aao Na
    come, come, come
    Hona Hai Fana
    have to perish

    Ulfat Ka Hai Dariya
it is the river of love
    Ye Jal kaa Ek Qatra
    this one drop of water
    Dariya Mein Hai Qatra
in the river is the drop of water
    Ya Katra Mein Hai Dariya
or is the river in the drop of water

    Saaya Hai Badan Ka
it is the shadow of the body
    Ya Tan Me Chhupa Saaya
or the shadow is hidden in the body
    Dono Mil Gaye To
    if both meet together
    Kya Tan Kya Kya Saaya
    what body and what shadow

    Dictionary defines it as:

    alAp alap,

    — s.f. Modulation, or raising of the voice in singing, tuning up; prelude to a song: — alap-cari, s.f. Tuning the voice preparatory to singing.

If you listen to Hindi c*l*a*s*s*i*c*a*l music it is the aa aa aa aa etc. you hear before the song starts or in between antaras (stanzas).

If you look at the lyrics Sporty Gal types up you will notice she always adds aa aa or oh oh etc. in the lyrics. I was just praising her because it takes extra effort to add that when typing out lyrics. I like it because many times when you print lyrics of the internet you don’t see that and so you miss out on adding the aalaap when you sing. Often I print out lyrics and add those details to my printout. The extra details make it easier for me to sing that song. This is why I can appreciate the extra effort she puts in her typing of the lyrics.

Uff I had forgotten how annoying it is when my words end up with a bunch of asterisks in the middle.

You are most welcome. I am sure Sporty Gal would say the same thing. She does an amazing job of writing out lyrics including the aalaap and music as needed too.

If you get a chance to listen to these songs by Noor Jehan, I am sure you will be moved.Would be interested to hear your views of poetry in these lyrics.

Word of explanation for my lack of Hindi is that I left india a long time ago; but three of my favorite singers are Noor Jehan, Shamshad and Suraiya.

    Regards,

It was my pleasure. If I am able to do some thing to make music more enjoyable for others, I am always happy to do so. I have heard many songs on Noor Jehan, Shamshad Begum and Suraiya. Though I do not recall hearing any of these songs. Are they available some where on the net to listen to? As far as poetry goes, these songs had nice lyrics. Most of the older songs paid much more attention to lyrics than some of the later songs in 80s. It is nice to see that once more the lyricists are coming up with decent lyrics.

I would never win an argument with you Nitzah so what would be the point in my trying to dispute any of the things you say about me. Yes, I freely admit that you nicknamed me “faaltoo female” even though I am far from faaltoo. However, if it makes you happy to call me that, please feel free to do so.

Lyric Name: Hamari Sanson Mein Aaj

Hamari saanson mein aaj tak woh heena ki khushbhoo mehak rahi hai
in my breath even today there is the fragrance of the heena flower
Labo-n pe naghme machal rahe hai-n nazar se masti chhalak rahi hai
on my lips songs are playing, from the eyes fun is overflowing

Woh mere nazdeek aate aate hayaa se ek din simat gaye the-y
one day she was coming close to me and she pulled away in her shyness
Mere khayalo-n mein aaj tak woh badan ki daali latak rahi hai
in my thoughts even today there is her body like a vine/branch

Sadaa jo dil se nikal rahi hai woh sher-o-naghmo-n mein dhal rahi hai
the sound that comes out of my heart is turning into a song
Ke dil ke aangan mein jaise koi ghazal ki dhaandhar khanak rahi hai
as if in the courtyard of the heart, a beautiful songs tune is sounding

Tadap mere bekharar dil ki kabhi To un-pay asar karey-gi
the pain of my restless heart will have an effect on her/him some time
Kabhi to woh bhi jalengay isme jo aag dil main dahek rahi hai
some time they will also burn in the fire burning in my heart

Jaltay hain Armaan, mera dil rota hai
    desires burn, my heart cries
Qismat ka dastoor nirala hota hai
what fortune gives us is unique
Aayee aisi mauj keh sahil choot gaya
such a wave came that the shore was left behind
Warna apni kashti kaun doobota hai
otherwise who sinks their own boat
Qismat ka dastoor nirala hota hai
what fortune gives us is unique

Kaun meray tootay dil ki faryaad sunay
who will listen to the plea of my broken heart
Aaj meri taqdeer ka malik sota hai
today the boss/maker of my fate sleeps
Qismat ka dastoor nirala hota hai
what fortune gives us is unique

Hope this is the one you meant

    HAMESHA

Silsile tor ke Chal diye kidhar
breaking the chain, where are you going
    Aik hee mor pe
    on just one corner
    Bas aik hee nazar
    just one glimpse
    Beetay dino’n kee woh baatain
    the talks of past days
    Yaad hain
    I remember
magar Kuch naheen is jahan mein
but there is nothing in this world
    Jo tu nahin idhar
    when you are not here
    Chahay kuch bhee ho ja’ye
    no matter what happens
    Mein rahoon ga
    I will be there
    Chahay waqt thum ja’ye
    even it time stops
    Mein rahoon ga
    I will be there
    Mein rahoon ga hamesha
    I will be there always
    Mein rahoon ga
    I will be there
    Maut a’ye tau a’ye
if death comes let it come
    Mein rahoon ga
    I will be there
    Aik mein aik tu
    one you one me
    Aik hee basar
    just one day
Aik hee jaan pe Marte hain magar
I die for just one life/love
Beetay dino’n kee woh baatain Yaad hain
I remember the talks of the past days
magar Kuch nahin is jahan mein
but there is nothing in this world
    Jo tu nahin idhar
    if you are not here

Close my eyes I picture you inside
Its like a memory, a curse that I cant deny
Days are vague and I can’t explain
Tryina hold on to your gift of pain
Its like a déjà vu commin all around
Tryna break me tryna bring me down
See im too string to face any of this
Im walking away from you God forsaken bliss

I knew I had translated this song at least once before. When I used the search feature I found that a request for this song has been posted at least twice. I love this song though and find the lyrics to really touch my heart. It sounds good too. In fact the local DJ here said that this is the song most requested on Valentines Day.

You can find the translation at the following:

Most of the people who like old songs already know Hindi and do not need translations. However, we do get occasional requests for old songs and I know I have provided translations for those songs. Was your question a general question or were you actually looking for the translation of a particular song?
