Actually “Shukriyaa” is an Urdu word. I am not sure but I believe it comes from either Arabic or Persian “Shukran”. You may know that Urdu developed in India (this is long before India and Pakistan were divided) and is a combination of Hindi spoken by the native Indians and Persian and Arabic as spoken by the Moghuls who came to India.

The correct Hindi word for “Thanks” is “Dhanyawaad”. However, you will see many more people saying “Thanks” than either “Dhanyawaad” or “Shukriya”.

hey madhu, yeah i agree with u… but most people now use the work “thank you” rather than “dhanyawaad or shukriya”.. but for my family we use “shukriya”.. well neways yeah its all different kinds of languages..lol.
