My rule is that I never e-mail any one lyrics or translations. If you request it here then you will have to return here to get them.

This particular song took a lot of effort to find and took forever for me to write down the lyrics. Pradeep never repeats a line so had to listen to it over and over before I got the lyrics. Hopefully it is correct since by now I am half asleep. However, if I wait till tomorrow to type it I will probably not be able to decipher my own writing since I scribbled the lyrics as I heard them.

Aaj ke is insaan ko ye kyaa ho gayaa,
iskaa puraanaa pyaar kahaan par kho gayaa,

Kaisi ye manhoos ghadi hai, bhaaiyon mei jang chidi hai,
Kahin par khoon, kahin par jwaalaa, jaane kyaa hai hone waalaa,
Sab kaa maathaa aaj jhukaa hai, aazaadi kaa juloos rukaa hai,
Chaaron ore dagaa hee dagaa hai, har chhure par khoon lagaa hai,
Aaj dukhi hai jantaa saari, rote hain laakhon nar naari,
Rote hain aangan galiyaare, rote aaj mohalle saare,
Roti Salmaa, roti hai Seeta, rote hain Quraan aur Geeta ,
Aaj Himaalay chillaataa hai, kahaan puraanaa wo naataa hai,
Das diyaa saare desh ko zehreele naagon ne,
ghar ko lagaa dee aag ghar ke chiraagon ne,

Apnaa desh wo desh thhaa bhaai, laakhon baar musibat aayee,
Insaanon ne jaan ganwaayee par bahanon ki laaj bachaayee,
Lekin ab wo baat kahaan hai, ab to kewal ghaat yahaan hai,
Chal rahee hai ultee hawaayen, kaanp rahee thhar thhar ablaayen,
Aaj har ek aanchal ko hai khatraa, aaj har ghunghat ko hai khatraa,
Khatre mei hai laaj bahan kee, khatre mei hai chudiyaan dulhan kee,
Dartee hai har paanw ki paayal, aaj kaheen ho naa jaaye ghaayal,
Aaj salaamat naa koi ghar hai, sab ko lut jaane kaa dar hai,
Humne apne watan ko dekhaa, aadmi ke patan ko dekhaa,
Aaj to bahanon par bhee humlaa hotaa hai,
duur kisi kone mei majhab rotaa hai,
Kiske sar ilzaam dharen hum, aaj kahaan fariyaad karen hum?
Karte hai jo aaj ladaai, sub ke sub hain apne hee bhaai,
Sub ke sub yahaan apraadhi, haay mohabbat sub ne bhulaa dee,
Aaj bahee jo khoon ki dhaaraa, doshi uskaa samaaj hai saaraa,
Suno zara o sunne waalon, aasmaan par nazar ghumaa lo,
Ek gagan mei karoron taare, rahte hain hil mil kar saare,
Kabhi naa wo aapas mei ladte, kabhi naa dekhaa unko jhagadte,
Kabhi nahin wo chhure chalaate, kabhi nahin kisi kaa khoon bahaate,
Lekin is insaan ko dekho, dharti ki santaan ko dekho,
Kitnaa hai ye haay kameenaa, is ne laakhon kaa sukh chheenaa,
Kee hai isne aaj jo tabaahee, denge uskee ye mulk gawaahee,
Aapas kee ye dushmani kaa ye anjaam huaa,
duniyaa hansne lagi desh badnaam huaa,
Kaisaa ye khatre kaa fazal hai, aaj hawaaon mei bhee zahar hai,
Kahin bhee dekho baat yahee hai, haay bhayaanak raat yahee hai,
Maut ke saaye hain ghar ghar mei, kab kya hogaa kise khabar hai,
Bund hain khidki, bund hain dwaare, baithe hain sab darr ke mare,
Kyaa hogaa in bechaaron kaa, kyaa hogaa in laachaaron kaa,
Inkaa sub kuch kho saktaa hai, in par humlaa ho saktaa hai,
Koi rakshak nazar aataa naheen, khoyaa hai aakaash mei daataa,
Ye kyaa haal huaa apne sansaar kaa,
nikal rahaa hai aaj zanaazaa pyaar kaa

It was my pleasure. Actually I should probably thank you instead for introducing me to this song. Truth be told, I don’t remember ever having heard this song before. It is a nice song, very meaningful, but perhaps a bit strong for the majority public. I have a few songs of Kavi Pradeep on my website but I don’t have this one. I could not add this because the only site where I found it did not permit downloads. Otherwise I would have added it, specially since I would have been able to provide lyrics at the same time (now that I have typed them out for you Big Smile [:D] ).

Well you must be a pretty good singer to have won prizes. Too bad we can not hear you sing on this forum. The best reason to sing is to sing for our own pleasure. Keep it up! Smile [:)]

I never expected this song to come up again. I have translated it but it was tough and time consuming. Each sentence may not be the literal word by word translation but it should be pretty close.

Aaj ke is insaan ko ye kyaa ho gayaa, – what has happened to this human of today

iskaa puraanaa pyaar kahaan par kho gayaa,
      – where has his old love gotten lost

Kaisi ye manhoos ghadi hai – what wretched time is this
bhaaiyon mei jang chidi hai, – there is a battle going on
      between brothers

Kahin par khoon, kahin par jwaalaa, – somewhere is blood, somewhere is blaze / flames
jaane kyaa hai hone waalaa, – who knows what is about to happen

Sab kaa maathaa aaj jhukaa hai,
      everyones head is bowed today
      aazaadi kaa juloos
      rukaa hai, – the Independence
      procession has stopped

Chaaron ore dagaa hee dagaa hai, – all
around is just treachery only treachery
har chhure par khoon lagaa hai, – on every dagger there is blood

Aaj dukhi hai jantaa saari, – today all public is sad
      rote hain laakhon nar
naari, – hundreds of thousands of men and women are crying

Rote hain aangan galiyaare, – the
      courtyards and alleys are crying
rote aaj mohalle saare, – today all neighborhoods are crying

Roti Salmaa, roti hai Seeta, – Salma is
crying, Seeta is crying (Muslim & Hindu names)
rote hain Quraan aur Geeta – Quraan
and Geeta are crying (Muslim & Hindu Religious books ) – regardless of what
religion they follow everyone is crying)

Aaj Himaalay chillaataa hai, – today the
      Himalayas shout
kahaan puraanaa wo naataa hai, – where is that old connection / relationship

Das diyaa saare desh ko zehreele naagon ne, the
whole country has been bitten by poisonous snakes
ghar ko lagaa dee aag ghar ke chiraagon ne – the homes were set on fire by the lamps of
      their own homes

Apnaa desh wo desh thhaa bhaai, – our
      country was that country, brother
      laakhon baar musibat
aayee, – hundreds of thousands of times
      difficulties came

Insaanon ne jaan ganwaayee – men sacrificed their lives
par bahanon ki laaj bachaayee, – but they saved the honour of their sisters

Lekin ab wo baat kahaan hai, – but no where is that any more
ab to kewal ghaat yahaan hai, now
all that is left are the wounds

Chal rahee hai ultee hawaayen, – the wind is blowing backwards
kaanp rahee thhar thhar ablaayen, – women are shivering with fear

Aaj har ek aanchal ko hai khatraa, – today each aanchal (end of sari) is in danger
      aaj har ghunghat ko
hai khatraa, – today each veil is in
danger (all women are in danger)

Khatre mei hai laaj bahan kee, – the
      sisters honour is in danger
khatre mei hai chudiyaan dulhan kee, – the bangles of the bride are in danger
      (it
really means the husbands are in danger because when the husband dies
traditionally Hindu women shatter their bangles)

Dartee hai har paanw ki paayal, – the ankle bracelet is scared
      aaj kaheen ho naa
jaaye ghaayal, – in case it is wounded
      today

Aaj salaamat naa koi ghar hai, – today
no home is safe any more
sab ko lut jaane kaa dar hai, <

I am so grateful that you found the time and took it to translate this song…I see now that it has strong political undertones and gives insight into pradeeps influence in

indian society and history that involved political, religious strife provoked by some things like with india gaining it independence from the british, etc. Also gives an understanding of why he went underground to escape the threat or warrant of arrest by the british at the time. I think many of the thoughts in this song still has relevance to today, maybe to a lesser degree in some cases. Its just thought provoking since what he is talking about shapes how we live today.

I must show my appreciation in a more substantial way soon…but for now

      thanks againWink

It was my pleasure. It is a really meaningful song and while it took some effort it was worth it since you now appreciate the song more. Kavi Pradeep wrote during the time when we were still fighting for independence so he has many patriotic songs. I like many of those he wrote and pick those to sing in Yahoo rooms every year on Republic Day and Independence Day. Without fail I sing aye mere watan ke logon zara aankh mei bhar lo paani and others such as aao bachon tumhe dikhaayen jhaanki Hindustan ki. If you are interested you can take a look at an article I found about Kavi Pradeep.
