What’s your favourite Romantic or Sad bollywood songs? Let us know! Smile

      Some songs I like:

Kal Ho Na Ho – Sad
      http://66.45.233.12/Kal_Ho_Naa_Ho_(Sad)_KAL_HO_NAA_HO.mp3

      Tum ho gham ko chhupaaye
You are there hiding the sorrow
      Main hoon sar ko jhukaaye
      I’m here bowing my head
Tum bhi chup ho, main bhi chup hoon
      You are quiet, I’m quiet
      Kaun kise samjhaaye
      Who will understand whom…

In the 60’s some 40 years ago this one was a gem: unto today it is still being played:

There are two versions Mohd Rafi and Lataji, both are classics, the Rafisaab version viz-

here is another song that i like Rabba – Musafir..

Zindagi mein koyi kabhi aaye na rabba
God, may no one ever come into my life
Aaye jo koyi toh phir jaaye na rabba
and if someone comes, then may they never leave, God!
Dene ho gar mujhe baad mein aansoo…
If, in the end, they’re destined to give me tears,
Toh pehele koyi hasaaye na rabba
then don’t let them make me laugh in the first place, lord!

oh my goodness, the lyrics…. i LoVe it… does anybody share my liking for this song? here is the full lyrics, translation thanks to madhu..

Hindi Movie: Hamara Dil Aapke Paas Hai
Singer(s): Alka Yagnik & Udit Narayan

      Song: Shukriya

      (Shukriya, shukriya, shukriya mere piya
Thank you, thank you, thank you, my love
Jitne soye khwaab the, sab ko jagaa diya) – 2
You awoke all my dormant dreams

(Jaage sapne, jaage armaan, jaagi hai dhadkan
      Dreams, desires, heartbeats awaken
Kaisi duniya, kya zamaana, tod har bandhan) – 2
What a world; what a time!  Shatter every restraint.

      Shukriya, shukriya, shukriya mere piya
Jitne soye khwaab the, sab ko jagaa diya

(Kya kahoon, kya maine tumse milke paaya hai
How can I explain to you what I gained upon meeting you?
Tum jo aaye, zindagi mein rang aaya hai) – 2
Color entered my life along with you.

Aao tumko le chaloon main dil ki raahon mein
Come, I’ll take you down the roads of the heart
Aaj humko manzilon ne khud bulaaya hai
The destinations themselves are beckoning us today.

      Shukriya, shukriya, shukriya mere piya
Jitne soye khwaab the, sab ko jagaa diya

Barkha badal, choli aanchal, phool aur khushboo
Clouds, veil, flowers and fragrance ripple outward
Hum bhi yunhi saath mein hai, jaanle yeh tu
and that’s also the way we are together, you must understand!

      Shukriya, shukriya, shukriya mere piya
Jitne soye khwaab the, sab ko jagaa diya

Mere dil ka haal kya hai, kya kahoon tumse
How can I explain the state of my heart to you?
Pyaar itna paake mere hosh hai goom se
I’ve received so much love that my head is spinning

Zindagi bhar pyaar mera kam nahin hoga
And my love for you won’t lessen my whole life long
Maanglo tum jaan bhi to gham nahin hoga
Even if you ask for my life, you won’t be disappointed

      Shukriya, shukriya, shukriya mere piya
Jitne soye khwaab the, sab ko jagaa diya

Dharti ambar, dariya saagar, geet aur sargam
Earth and sky, river and ocean, song and melody,
Mauj saahil, rastaa manzil, saath hai yun hum
wave and shore, road and destination, that’s how you and I go together

      (Shukriya, shukriya, shukriya mere piya
Jitne soye khwaab the, sab ko jagaa diya) – 2

      yup abdool, agreed!

      MERI MEHBOOBA

      Kisii roz tumse mulaaqaat hogii…
Some day I will meet you…
Merii jaan us din mere saath hogii
My love, from that day forth, you will be with me.
Magar kab na jaane yeh barsaat hogii
      But who knows when you’ll shower down your love;
Mera dil hai pyaasa mera dil akela
My heart is thirsty, my heart is lonely
Zaraa tasviir se tuu nikalke saamne aa
Just step out from the picture in my mind and come before me
      Merii mahabuuba
      My love
Merii taqdiir hai tuu machalke saamne aa
You’re my fate; fight out of the picture and come before me!
      Merii mahabuuba
      My love

      Nahii.n yaad kabse magar mai.n huu.n jabse
I don’t even remember since when, perhaps as long as I’ve existed,
Mere dil me.n terii muhabbat hai tabse
      I have loved you.
Mai.n shaayar huu.n tera tuu merii ghazal hai
I’m your poet, and you are my poem.
      BaRii beqaraarii mujhe aajkal hai…
Lately, I’m restless with longing for you.
Zaraa tasviir se tuu nikalke saamne aa
Just step out from the picture and come before me!
      Merii mahabuuba
      My love
Jaane kahaa.n se lo aa ga’ii hai voh
Who knows where she’s come from

Bhalaa kaun hai voh hame.n bhii bataa’o
No matter who she is, just tell me!
Yeh tasviir uskii hame.n bhii dikhaa’o
At least show me this picture of her!
Ye qisse sabhii ko sunaate nahii.n hai
This story shouldn’t be told to just everyone,
Magar dosto.n se chhupaate nahii.n hai
But you can’t hide it from friends!
Tere dard-e-dil ki davaa ham kare.nge
      I’ll cure the pain in your heart;
Na kuchh kar sake.n to du’aa ham kare.nge…
If I can’t do anything, then I’ll pray for you!
TaRapkar aa’egii voh tujhe mil jaa’egii voh
She’ll struggle out and come; you’ll meet her,
      Terii mahabuuba
      Your love!

      Kisii roz tumse mulaaqaat hogii…
Some day I will meet you..
Merii jaan us din mere saath hogii

      YESUDAS

      Hi LoverofMusic,

It is very difficult to give an honest opinion on Yesudas, his numbers
on hindi songs (filmi type) are not that lenthy, hard as I might try I
can only think of about a dozen or even less.

I remember that when he started out in the playback singing field, he
was very good, his music were tops, “Trishul” had like about two songs,
then there was “Saawan Ko Aane Do” with about four top hits songs,
“Chitchor” has one, and then “Saajan Bina Suhagan” another; I really
cannot remember of any other movies with “Hit Songs”

He received the Padmashri from thePresident of India in 1977. He
received the first National Award in 1977 for singing in the film
Achanum Bappayum, his second National Award for the film Gayathri, the
third National Award in 1978 for film Chitchor, the fourth National
Award for the Telugu f ilm Mega sandesham, his fifth National Award for
the flm Unnikale Oru Katha Parayaam, and his sixth in 1992 for the film
Bharatham. In all he is basking in about seven National Awards.

He is unequal in his capacity for songs of Classical type………he is a master in this type of singing,

ofcourse this is where he had really proven himself, with his ability
to master and sing in the many languages of India………in as much as
it is said that he had recorded so far between 20,000 – 25,000 songs.
Too bad that I am not too fond of the Classical Type of Songs.

All in all Yesu Ahimsa released recently along with Ricardo Banrrantes, brings talents
from the East and West under one roof, with an aim of spreading the
message of global peace and harmony.

Could we put him in the class of SP Balasubramaniam?

Songs by Yesudas that I enjoyed listening to:

I am so sorry Loverof music, when you mentioned Bhupinder Singh, I was thinking of someone else,
‘Beete na bitaayi raina birha ki jaai raina…bheegi *** akhiyo mein raat na aayi raina…”Bhupinder”
This song sounds very familiar, can not give an opinion on Bhupinder, as I have not listened to many of his filmi songs………but I did listen to some of his Ghazals Selections with his wife Mitali, and I think that Mitali sings really beautifully, will listen again to “Tauba Tauba”

Could you why he stopped singing in hindi films?

Loverofmusic, I can relate to some of these songs, a couple can be regarded as favs of mine, that is

      (1) Meri bheegi bheegi si palko pe rah gaye
      (2) Ye shaam mastaani…madhosh kiye jaay
      (3) Kya se kya ho gaya bewafa.
      (4) Ghunghuroo ki tarha…bajta hi raha hoo mein
      (5) Jane kaha mera jigar gaya ji
      (6) Koi jab tumhaara hriday tod de *only Mukeshji could have sung this one with so much emotion

I played the harmoonium, mandolin, grapple with guitar a little bit, but the gift of a singing voice never came my way, as a matter of fact if you listen to me you will pelt me with anything nearby.

A couple years ago there was this movie “Dil Vil Pyar Pyar” if you can get the dvd to listen to, there are some nostalgic oldies.

So Loverofmusic do you sing like in a group/band

Wow wow wow! U have given almost a complete biodata of Yesudas!!! Im amazed!!!!

Well the song ‘beete na bitayi raina’ is from the film parichay staring Jitendra and Jaya. It has got lots of songs…there is another semi classical piece by Bhupinder alone. The film is actually an Indianised adaptation of ‘Sound of music’. ‘Beete na bitaayi is a duet by Latha and Bhupinder.

As for why they (Bhupinder and Yesudas) left Hindi film music field…. I think the Hindi belt is not that keen on non Hindi speaking singers…Yesudas is from South India and Bhupinder is from the North East…Bhupinder’s accent etc is excellent, perfect. But as far as yesudas is concerned, tho he has put up a good effort, its rather funny. But his singing talents are just unmatchable!

So u r not a cla$sical music fan! Well, 2day morning on the way to office i was listening to a Rafi collection… what is ur opinion of ‘Madhuban mein radhika nache re…girdhar ki muraliya baaje re’… it is a semi classical number of Rafi saab.

Well, I was part of a troup once upon a time…when it interfered with my studies, Dad made me quit. Our whole family is crazy bout music. Its a family of ‘lovers of music’Smile.

How bout u? R u part of a music troop? U have to be a South Indian to know so much about Yesudas….

Thats somemore I ‘ve learn’t about Yesudas and Bhupinder, I can understand Bhupinder’s being from the North, would speak perfect Hindi/Urdu and his language would seemed acceptable and as perfect flowing to the Northern Indian. What are the language of the Southern Indian? Do they still uses Sanscrit in India?…….reason for asking this, is recently I have listened to a song by Jagjit Singh, a bhajan titled “Hey jag trata” and it blew my socks away. Could not understand the meaning. I think that certain sect of Brahmhin still uses Sanscrit.
Betay Na Beta ay Raina…………..Lata and Bhupinder, listend to recently after a long time, seems refreshing, but the one to hold my attention was this duet with Rafi and Bhupinder “Dharam Kanta”

Guess your dad was perfectly right to make you quit to continue your studies, this should be the most important thing in your life right now………..there is always a time for singing, someday you are going to say “Thank You Dad”
Do not have the time to be in a group right now, have friends who encourages me, but I guess the interest is not there.

Will tell you about those light classical, and other classicals by Manna Dey later.

L&LOL! Abdool ji! Which part of the world are u from!? Jus curious!

Im sure u r either joking or pulling my leg in asking about languages of South India….SurpriseHowever, at least for the sake of those who dont know…lemme enlighten….Smile

The main languages of South India are Kannad, Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam. Yesudas is basically a malayali but he has sung in all the South Indian langs. There is another singer from South who has put in quite a few songs in Hindi-S P Balasubrahmanyam. His debut was ‘ek duje ke liye’ i think. His pronounciation is good…tho the tone/accent is slightly Tamilish. There is another lady from South who has perfect Hindi accent. Her name is Vani Jayaram (tho i dont know wher exactly from South she is). She sang the famous semi cla$sical number in ‘Guddi’…’Bole re papee hara papee hara’.

Bhupinder is not exactly from the North but from North East(Assam or Orissa). Oh I just love his way of singing…I love his nasal voice. Im a real great fan of his.

As for Yesudas….tho his accent may sound funny to Hindi speaking people, Malayalis are of the opinion that his accent is perfect. Whatever said and done, he has put up a real good effort to make it as perfect as he can. And i guess he has taken the pain to understand every word of what he sang so as to bring in the right emotions…’Zid na karo, ab to ruko…ye raat nahi aayegi’ is a good example for that.

These are my personal views/opinions, ok. And i wud love to know ur views, Abdoolji.

Loverji, a lesson to the now generation “listening to parents” is quite important and should be a part of everyday’s education. Too bad that when kids are away from parental sights, things can go haywire. But I guess that trusts and parental guidance plays a great part in the way kids are moulded.

You are a working person just like me, I do not know if I am younger or older than you, but there is mutual respects………thats what counts.

Gosh! I really missed our lkkle chit chat with loverofmucic, my last communications with loverji, was about couple months ago when she was able to logged on but could not have posted, email was sent to Mukeshji, but did not followup, browsing through the forum, now I wished that I had sent a followup to the Admin.

Guys if there is anything can be done to fix Loverofmusic problems……will appreciate, maybe just to continue this narrative on music, she is so much learned in Music.

I remember that loverji was telling me, one time when she was in a singing competition, and she blew away the rest, to become the Numero uno, unfinished conversation,

Admin your help in fixing loverofmusic connections to the forum will be appreciated.
